I have worked in the jewellery trade for over 45 years, starting at the bench repairing mechanical watches. I also repaired fine pieces of jewellery, which I am sure helped me understand jewellery and watches when selling them. I then had a good understanding how things are made and put together. After working in various stores, and having my own business, I joined Michael Spiers in Taunton (in the Leath store) as manager. I enjoyed this for seven years before joining the team in Exeter when the store opened in 1999. After 10 years I’m still enjoying the buzz of selling and dealing with fine pieces of jewellery. It’s a pleasure to work in such an exciting business.

Working in Exeter has given me an opportunity to support the Exeter Chiefs Rugby team. As a company we sponsor various matches during the season and this has enabled me to attend several games, taking guests to enjoy the hospitality at the impressive Sandy Park ground.

I was brought up in the jewellery trade as my parents owned jewellery shops in Nottingham and Exeter. They also owned a workshop where I learned to love all the various gemstones and understand the business. When representatives came to visit with huge selections of gemstones I would love nothing more than going through all the packets to find unusual stones.

Summer holidays were spent either at the jewellers beside Dad making jewellery, or in our shop, where I subsequently worked after I left college. I have worked in jewellers shops ever since. I have been with Michael Spiers as Manager in our Exeter shop since it opened ten years ago, which is a role I really enjoy and work with a brilliant very enthusiastic team.

When not working I enjoy being with my family and love nothing better than being in the park splashing through puddles with my three year old son.
